When a contact first writes to a WhatsApp number connected to WaFloW.ai, the system automatically assigns them a device identifier tag.
This mechanism allows all future conversations to be conducted from the same number, without manual intervention.
What is automatic device tagging? #
The automatic tag is a label that WaFloW.ai assigns to the incoming contact in the first message received.
This tag:
- Identify the WhatsApp number with which the conversation was initiated.
- Allows the system to prioritize that same number in subsequent messages.
- Avoid unexpected number changes for the contact.
It is an automatic and transparent process.
When is the automatic tag assigned? #
The tag is assigned when:
- A contact writes to a WhatsApp number for the first time.
- The message is successfully received by WaFloW.ai.
- The contact does not yet have a device tag assigned.
From that moment on, that contact is linked to that number.
How it affects sending messages #
Once the automatic tag has been assigned:
- WaFloW.ai prioritizes that device to communicate with the contact.
- It doesn’t matter if there is a different favorite device.
- The overall priority of other numbers does not matter.
👉 Exclusive Tag Rule: The #WA#ID tag and the wa+NUMBER tag cannot coexist. There can only be one routing tag at a time; adding a new one automatically removes the previous one.
Example: If a client sends a message to one of your WhatsApp numbers connected through WaFloW, they will receive the wa+NUMBER tag. If the contact previously had a #WA#ID tag, it will be automatically deleted. Conversely, if you manually add a #WA#ID tag (or send a message routed via a specific ID), the system will delete the wa+NUMBER tag, ensuring all future messages are routed through that specific ID.
Advantages of using automatic tagging #
This system allows:
- Maintain continuity in the conversation.
- Avoid confusion when contacting us.
- Scale multiple numbers without chaos.
- Manage sales and support consistently.
The contact always “recognizes” the same number.
Practical example #
Setting:
- Subaccount with 3 connected numbers.
- A contact writes for the first time to the number with ID 2.
What is happening:
- WaFloW.ai receives the message.
- Automatically assigns device tag 2 to the contact.
- All future messages to that contact will be sent from number 2.
Even if there is a favorite or higher priority on another device.
Relationship with the shipping hierarchy #
Within the sending hierarchy, the automatic tag has:
- High priority
- It is only surpassed by manual forcing.
Simplified order:
- Manual forcing (
#WA#ID) - Automatic contact tagging
- Favorite device
- Automatic by priority / ID
When it is particularly useful #
- Multiple numbers per subaccount.
- Multi-channel sales teams.
- Customer support.
- High-volume agencies.
It is one of the pillars of the system’s stability.
Common mistakes #
- ❌ Thinking that the system changes numbers randomly.
- ❌ Manually removing the tag without understanding the impact.
- ❌ Manually forcing when it is not necessary.
Best practices #
- Let the automatic tag do its job.
- Avoid deleting or modifying these tags without reason.
- Use manual force only in specific cases.
- Document internally how this system works.
Summary #
The automatic tag:
- Assigned to the first incoming message.
- Link the contact to a specific number.
- Ensures automatic continuity.
- It is key to scaling up without losing control.
